Computed Tomography Enterography and Magnetic Resonance Enterography in the Diagnosis of Crohn's Disease
نویسنده
چکیده
Imaging of the small bowel is complicated by its length and its overlapping loops. Recently, however, the development of crosssectional imaging techniques, such as computed tomography enterography (CTE) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) has shifted fundamental paradigms in the diagnosis and management of patients with suspected or known Crohn's disease (CD). CTE and MRE are noninvasive imaging tests that involve the use of intraluminal oral and intravenous contrast agents to evaluate the small bowel. Here, we review recent advances in each cross-sectional imaging modality, their advantages and disadvantages, and their diagnostic performances in the evaluation of small bowel lesions in CD.

Role of Computed Tomography Enterography/Magnetic Resonance Enterography: Is It in Prime Time?
Today, cross-sectional imaging modalities, such as computed tomography enterography (CTE) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE), are particularly suited to evaluate small bowel diseases, especially Crohn's disease (CD). It is well known that CTE/MRE can provide excellent assessment of disease activity as well as the macroscopic features, extramural abnormalities, and complications of the sm...

BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) has been proposed as a non-ionising alternative method to computed tomography enterography (CTE). Some studies have directly compared CTE and MRE in patients with small bowel Crohn's disease (CD) with variable results. AIM To compare the overall diagnostic accuracy in assessing the activity of small bowel and complications. METHODS MEDLINE, E...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance enterography for the evaluation of the deep small intestine in Crohn's disease.
For the control of Crohn's disease (CD) a thorough assessment of the small intestine is essential; several modalities may be utilized, with cross-sectional imaging being important. Magnetic resonance (MR) enterography, i.e., MRE is recommended as a modality with the highest accuracy for CD lesions. MRE and MR enteroclysis are the two methods performed following distension of the small intestine...
متن کاملThe role of small bowel endoscopy in small bowel Crohn's disease: when and how?
Endoscopy has a crucial role in the diagnosis, management, and surveillance of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It contributes in supporting the diagnosis of IBD with the clinical history, physical examination, laboratory findings, and targeted biopsies. Furthermore, endoscopy has a significant role in assessing disease activity and distribution in treatment efficacy evaluation, post-surgical ...
متن کاملUsefulness of magnetic resonance enterography in diagnosis of Crohn's disease.
UNLABELLED The numbers of patients with diagnosed Crohn's disease in Poland continue to be on the rise. It may be assumed that it is associated not with an increased incidence but with significant advancements in diagnostic techniques which in an increasingly better manner solve problems of abdominal pain. One of such methods is magnetic resonance enterography, which gives high hope in the diag...
